MESSAGE FROM THE DEPARTMENT HEAD

Welcome to the Department of Architecture, Sonargaon University (SU). In a profound demand of professional architects in the field of urban development, the Department of Architecture, SU aims at producing a new generation of professionals with the holistic preparedness to meet the emerging sustainability challenges in the local, regional and global trails.

Since January, 2014, the Department of Architecture, SU offers the Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch.) degree for the students from home and abroad. Since inception, in its journey, the Department of Architecture is gaining its own momentum and reputation as a forward-thinking architectural design school in Bangladesh. Keeping design at the core of our B.Arch programme, we inspire intellectual analysis as the basis for design investigation and pursue design excellence without dictating a specific design aesthetic or ideology. We endeavor to generate inclusive learning opportunities and objectives.

Our formal teaching-learning process is enriched through parallel academic events and learning activities outside the routine such as exhibition of studio projects, study tour and exchange of academic project discussion with teams from other institutions. The departmental seminar series ‘Probaho’ is a learning platform of the department where presentation and discussion on both scholarly research work by the inhouse faculty members and distinguished speakers from other universities takes place. The lecture series also includes the outstanding professional works by leading architects and students’ extracurricular work. We periodically conduct workshops on architectural hand sketch, painting, photography, carpentry, foundry, model construction and graphics software to improve the skills of our students. Our student clubs display their extra-curricular activities and soft skills. Workshops on teaching and assessment strategy also takes place to facilitate the academic development of our faculty members.

Our track record portrays our caliber through the achievement of our students and graduates. Several students have won national and international awards for their excellent academic works and extra-curricular activities. Most of our graduates are working professionally as entrepreneur or serving in the reputed non-government and government organizations. A very strong alumni network has already been established which helps the fresh graduates in their career journey.  

We strongly believe that our graduates, both in the professional and academic arenas, will play important role to introduce Bangladesh to the rest of the world with its own architectural identity.
