Treasurer, Sonargaon University
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Ekramol Islam is the Treasurer of Sonargaon University, the custodian of its funds and the office answerable for its financial policy. He has earlier served the university as its Vice Chancellor.
An academic and researcher, he is Editor-in-Chief of the Sonargaon University Journal (ISSN 2518-3125), the university’s peer-reviewed half-yearly publication.
A university’s finances exist to serve its teaching. Every decision this office takes is measured against that, and against nothing else.
Sonargaon University was founded on the belief that quality education should be within reach of every deserving student. Keeping it within reach is, in good part, a financial question: what the university asks of a family, what it spends that money on, and how openly it accounts for both.
So the budget is built around classrooms, laboratories and libraries rather than around them. Expenditure is approved before it is made, recorded when it is made, and reported to the Syndicate, the Board of Trustees and the University Grants Commission afterwards. Where the rules are strict, we keep to them; where they leave room for judgement, we choose the option a student would recognise as fair.
Students and their families entrust this university with savings that were not easy to put aside. That trust is the first responsibility of this office, and the one against which everything else is weighed.
